Position Summary:

Major Duties and Responsibilities (including supervising others):
MedImmune, Inc. has a new opportunity for an R&D Associate I/II in the Mass Spectrometry Group within the Analytical Biochemistry Department. The successful candidate will carry out development of analytical methods for biopharmaceutical products. She/he will also utilize mass spectrometry techniques to identify and characterize any post-translational modifications or breakdown products of proteins. The major duties of the candidate will be supporting characterization and in-process testing utilizing mass spectrometry technology. The candidate will also be expected to be familiar with SOP and GLP requirements during biopharmaceutical product development. The candidate will make detailed experimental observations, review and analyze data, and interpret experimental results independently. He/she will plan experiments and follow through for the characterization of proteins with mass spectrometric and chromatographic techniques. The candidate will need to present and discuss experimental results at group/project team meetings and scientific conferences. Finally, he/she MUST be thoughtful and considerate to colleagues and be able to work in a team structure and interface with different research and development departments.

Position Requirements This position requires a BS or MS degree or equivalent in Chemistry, Biochemistry or a related field with 0-3 years of relevant experience, preferably working in a bioanalytical environment of an industrial setting. An understanding of mass spectrometry, chromatography and spectroscopy techniques in protein analysis is essential. Familiarity with ESI MS, MALDI-TOF MS, peptide mapping, and carbohydrate analysis is required. Experience with size exclusion, affinity, reversed phase, and ion exchange chromatography is preferred. Good interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills are essential. Hands on experience with Thermo Fisher and Waters mass spectrometers, Agilent and Waters HPLCs and UPLCs are strongly preferred.
 

Educational Requirements Requirements/Qualifications:

Education: B.S. in Biochemistry or related science field

Experience:
