Description Title: Associate Director/Director, Operational Excellence

Position Summary:

Major Duties and Responsibilities (including supervising others):
The Associate Director of Operational Excellence for MedImmune’s Clinical Operations group provides technical leadership, mentoring, and project support as required to help support MedImmune’s Lean Six Sigma and other continuous improvement initiatives. The individual will work closely with functional leadership to define and implement lean six sigma capabilities in their organizations through the use of best-practice teams, processes, tools, and governance. The candidate will also work with the leadership team to establish a Clinical Operations OE strategy and continuous improvement roadmap consistent with corporate objectives. The individual will identify sponsorship and resources to execute projects and provide the necessary training and coaching for project teams to be successful. The candidate will manage and report on the portfolio of projects periodically. The candidate may also lead one or more strategic projects that have cross-functional impacts and significant value to the success of the business objectives. The individual will also have dotted line responsibilities to the Corporate Operational Excellence team which will provide support, resources, tools, and training for use in the Clinical Operations role.

 

Position Requirements Special Skills/Abilities: Candidate must possess excellent project management, communication, and leadership
skills. The candidate must demonstrate the ability to implement change and drive initiatives to completion through other people without direct supervisory responsibility. The candidate must be able to train Clinical Operations personnel in Lean Six Sigma techniques. The candidate will also be able to set and drive strategic alignment at all levels of the organization and maintain communications with key stakeholders across MedImmune.

Computer Skills: MS Outlook, Internet Explorer, MS Office are required. Minitab and Sharepoint skills preferred.

Job Complexity: Must demonstrate problem solving skills related to complex execution challenges on large projects; must be able to set and drive strategic alignment of the organization

Supervision: Develops and coaches project teams so that they are capable of delivering defined program objectives. The candidate will require little supervision in the execution of the Lean Six Sigma initiatives. 

Educational Requirements Requirements/Qualifications:

Education: BS/BA in a scientific related field preferably in the lifesciences. MBA degree preferred. Six Sigma Black Belt Certification required.

Experience: At least 12 years experience preferably in the Biotech / Pharmaceutical industry. Clinical Operations and Development experience preferred. Extensive knowledge of Lean Six Sigma principles required with demonstrated work experience as a Six Sigma Black Belt for a minimum of 2 years with formal training and experience in applying Lean methods.
